Freezing issues - won't let me restore factory defaults

I'm having issues with my xbox freezing all over the place.  Initially it was just with trying to setup TV, but now it'll freeze just on the home screen.  Sometimes when I start it up it gets stuck on a black screen with an xbox logo in the middle.

While trying to resolve this, I attempted to Restore factory defaults, but it just makes the beep noise and doesn't ever bring me to the confirmation to actually restore the defaults.  The same thing happens when I click "Turn Xbox off" and "Make this my home Xbox".  I also can no longer hold down the Xbox button on my controller to shut down the Xbox.

Not sure what else I can try.  I've tried holding down the power button for 8+ seconds to shut it down, waiting 30+ seconds and booting back up.  I've tried putting the Xbox in low resolution mode and booting back up with no luck.  Let me know if you have any last suggestions before I return it to the store for a replacement.

Thanks for the response.  I ended up exchanging my Xbox last night and the new one is working perfectly.

I am having these issues as well. When I try to sign in my Xbox One completely freezes and won't let me do a damn thing. I've been restarting and doing cold boots constantly but nothing helps. Every once in a while it will sign me in, but as soon as I launch an app or a game, I get kicked back to the dashboard and can't try and launch them again. The thread posted above did not help me whatsoever. Microsoft, please address this issue. I understand that it not being affected by many makes it a non-priority to you guys, but just the fact that it's happening to SOME should raise some red flags. My Xbox One was working completely fine up until your recent mandatory system update. And yes, I've tried re-installing the update to no avail. And the console won't let me restore to factory defaults. I repeat - SOMEBODY PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!

I'm also having this issue.  The suggestion on the other thread did not work, and I don't see an actual solution anywhere other than to just exchange the machine.  Which I don't want to do since, based on the number of people having this issue, will likely not resolve the problem anyway.  Can you please post a solution to this?

Hey guys. Sorry to hear you're going through these inconveniences! Have you tried checking and/or updating your Security Information at account.live.com? Be sure to add an Alternate Email Address and a valid Phone Number to your Security Info. And if they're already added, make sure they are Verified, which can be known if it states "Verify" next to any added Security Proofs. After making sure you have added and verified your Proofs; remove your profile from the console. This is done by going to Settings > Sign In, Passcode & Security > Remove me from this console. Then power cycle (power down console completely, unplug the power cable for 30 seconds, plug back in, and turn console back on), and re-download profile. You can re-download profile by going from the Home Dashboard > Sign-In (located Top-Left from Home Dashboard) > Add new > Enter MSA (Microsoft Account) + Password. Now, try accessing Live features such as Store, entering multiplayer games, etc. Happy gaming!

Thank you.  When I select "Remove me from this Xbox", the system chimes but does nothing, which also happens when I try to "Reset factory defaults" - a chime when I press the button but no action is taken.  What can I try?

After spending a couple of hours on the phone with support, he finally threw in the towel and sent me a replacement unit.  I do believe that this is some sort of software problem, so please forward this over to the PG so that they can work it into the product backlog for a future update.  Thank you for all your help!

I had the same issue. I resolved it by disconnecting my console from my wifi. As soon as I did that it instantly started the factory reset.
