Disc Drive spins really fast when 360 is turned off

I have a 360S 250Gb and sometimes when I turn it off for no reason the console decides to spin the disc drive up really fast.

I'm not even playing a game when I do, I turn it of from the dashboard

Why is it doing this and how do I stop it form doing so?

Does it only it do it for a little bit? Then completely turns off? If so, mine does the same and I've had no problems with it. Just try ignoring it?

I have had the same problem. Does it for 10seconds or less, then  spins down and is completely off. Happens when I turn off from dashboard. It doesn't happen all time, just at random. Doesn't seem to be a huge problem but kinda worrisome.

Happened to me 3 times, I have not been able to reproduce it since, trying to.

I don't know why it does it - and it's only on my GOW console, the other launch slim did not do it.

My XBOX Slim does this too.

It seems to occur if i queue up some downloads from the marketplace. I turn off the XBOX and the disc drive spins like crazy.

Doesn't do it every time, in fact it happens very rarely.

Is your Cloud Storage enabled? I know if your Cloud Storage is enabled your Xbox wont shut down right away.

Mine does the same thing. Brand new 250 GB S. It usually happens after watching streaming video. Both Netflix and Zune. I havent tried to reproduce it because it's so fast I'm afraid it will damage the disc in the tray. Never had this problem with my old box so it's either new S hardware or the lousy new dashboard. No cloud storage enabled, no downloads queued. Would be nice to get some official acknowlwegement of this. I've seen reports of it in a lot of forums. If a disc gets ruined from this  I'm not going to be happy or quiet about it.

Have you figured out why?

My console does this aswell, when I'm charging my control and my console is off, the disc spins at full throttle then stops, then goes, then stops?!!

It's a little scary, I hope my Xbox isnt dying :(

My 250 gig 360S does this once or twice a week. I shut it down and the disc drive spins up extremely fast and the power button blinks slowly. Usually, I ignore it and it stops after a few seconds, but sometimes it shows no signs of stopping, so I power back on and shutdown again.

This can't be good for the system, the disc drive sounds like its spinning about 10x faster than it does when playing a game off the disc.

I haven't been able to find a good answer as to why this happens.

I even tweeted the Xbox support people (usually very prompt and helpful, by the way) and they suggested it might be the fan.

It's clearly the disc drive, because when I hit the eject button the noise stops before the tray comes out.

I keep having this problem too. Very intermittent, doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything in particular that I'm doing.

Someone from Xbox suggested in another thread to just make sure you always take your discs out of the console when you shut it down, but that's kind of a poor work-around and we shouldn't have to. My sisters old model 360 never does this, even with the latest system updates.

I'm legitimately worried eventually it's going to wear out the drive motor or damage one of my games.

Maybe we should all tweet @XboxSupport to get someone to really look into this? It's way too common to ignore.

Hey there Kita! Are you certain this is the disc drive and not just the fan expelling hot air? Does it not make this noise if you first remove the disc before powering down? Let me know, thanks!
