Mail Error Codes 0x800CCC6A

Original title: Mail Error Codes
Vista Home Premium OS and running Mail sometimes generates error code 0x800CCC6A when trying to send some messages. I have been unable to cure this problem when it happens and neither have I been able to establish any link between the messages i.e. the addressee, emaail address, ISP, message content, etc.

Can anyone offer a solution which doesn't involve buying proprietary software if possible.

I've been looking around and there doesn't seem to be one answer that 'fits all'. Do the messages that generate this error have anything in common? (i.e. Are they all replies? Forwards? Have attachments?).

You are using Windows Mail, correct? I would start with the following.

1: Remove the account, reboot and add it back.

2: Try repairing the database and compacting.

WMUtil

3:
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

Note that for many AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option is offered.
