kernel data inpage error windows 8 during virus scan

I was running a virus scan using Avast and my laptop shut down during this - blue screen with the message 'Kernel data inpage error' Windows 8 is the operating system. This only seems to happen when running a virus scan, the computer seems to run ok at other times. Can this be resolved?

I see that this is your first post in this forum, welcome to the Microsoft Community.

The KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x0000007A. This bug check indicates that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. This issue could be caused due to some memory issues or due to a bad sector in the hard disk. I would suggest you to try these steps and check:

Memory diagnostics:

First, I would suggest you to run the Memory diagnostics tool which can automatically check for memory issues and resolve it. Refer to these steps:

a) Press “Windows Logo” and “W” keys on the keyboard to open the “Settings” search bar.
b) Type “Diagnose your computer’s memory problem” in the search bar and press “Enter” key on the keyboard.

c) Follow the on-screen instructions to run it.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run a disc check to check for any bad sectors in the hard drive and try to resolve it. Refer to these steps:

a) Press Windows key + X, select “Command promt (Admin)”.

b) In the command prompt window, type “chkdsk/r” and press Enter.

c) Press “Y” when it asks if you want to check disk to run when the computer boots the next time.

d) Restart the computer for Check disk to detect and repair any corrupted sectors in your hard drive.

Important: While performing Error-checking or ChkDsk on the hard drive, if any bad sectors are found and when attempting to repair that sector, the data available on that sector might be lost.

If the issue still persists, then the issue could be caused by the third party software that you are using. You can also use the built-in Windows defender that offers real time protection from security threats. Refer to this article for more information:
