Hi Camille,
Thank you for providing us an opportunity to assist you through Microsoft Community.
It seems that you are unable to access your photos from your Windows 8 computer and you are getting the error message: “windows cannot
access...you may not have permission”.
I would like to have more information about this issue:
1)
From where, are you trying to access your photos? Is it from the Pictures Library or from Photo App?
2)
If you are trying to access the photos from the hard drive, then in which location have you saved them?
3)
From when, are you facing this issue?
4)
Have you made any recent changes on the computer prior to this issue?
5)
Are you logged into the computer as an administrative user?
If you are not logged in as an administrative user, then login to the computer using the administrative account and then check the issue.
Method 1: Take the ownership of the folder where you have saved the photos.
If you are trying to access the photos stored in the hard drive of the computer, then let us try taking the ownership of the folder and then
check the issue. To take ownership of a folder, try these steps.
a)
Right click on the folder from which you are trying to access the photos and click on “Properties”.
b)
Click on the “Security” tab.
c)
Click on “Edit” under Group or User names and select “Add”.
d)
In the new window that opens, type “everyone” under “Enter the object names to select” and click on “Check Names”.
e)
Click “OK”.
f)
Select “Full Control” under “Permissions for everyone”.
g)
Click “Apply”, then “OK”.
h)
Click “OK”.
Now, try accessing the photos and let’s know the result.
If you are facing this issue with the Photo App, then I would suggest you to run app troubleshooter and check if that helps.
Method 2: Run Apps Troubleshooter and Update and Synchronize the App License.
Step 1:
Run Apps Troubleshooter
Let’s run the Apps Troubleshooter and check if that helps. The Apps Troubleshooter is an automated tool which we have developed to address a number of known issues
that can prevent the Apps from running properly. This troubleshooter automatically fixes some issues, including suboptimal screen resolution, incorrect security or account settings etc.
You can click on this link to download and run the Apps troubleshooter.
