Windows 8 deleted all my installed programs

I have not done anything to my laptop. It was working fine, I just turned on my computer to find every app I have installed removed.
They are still in the "remove programs" in control panel, but when I search for them they are no where to be found.

This has happened once before and the programs have just reappeared within an hour or so. But it has been longer than that now and it is incredibly frustrating and should not be happening to such an "advanced" system.

I have thrown out my Office product key when I bought it as I figured why would I need it again IT'S ALREADY ON MY COMPUTER, rookie mistake obviously when encountering Windows 8.

Enough of the sarcasm..

If someone could help me that would be excellent.

Thank you.

Hi Nicole,

1. Are you able to see the apps which you downloaded using Windows Store on modern UI screen?

2. Did you check for the installed programs in C:\Program Files?

3. If you see the installed programs/apps in Program Files, are you able to open the programs from there?

Please provide us some more details so that we can help you further to fix the problem.

If I search for any of the apps they do not appear. The only evidence they ever existed on my laptop is when I go to the "uninstall a program" window, they're all there. But no where else.

Hi Nicole,

Since the issue started recently, you may try performing a System restore and check if it helps.

You may try performing a system restore prior to a point before you were experiencing the issue.

Note: When you perform System Restore to restore the computer to previous state, programs and updates you installed are removed.

a. Press Win + R and type in rstrui.exe and press enter.
b. Click next and Select a restore point prior to the issue and click on Next.

c. Click on Finish to perform the restore.

Hope the information helps.

Could you please tell me what the command is in run for resetting the PC. An error came up when I tried to restore it and it did not work.
I'm getting sick of trying to fix it, so I just want to start from scratch.

I can't go to change my PC settings because it won't open when I click on it.

Thank you.

I've already done the command prompt (admin) sfc/scannow to try and open PC settings as well, and it came back with nothing unfortunately.

2. Are you unable to access any of the desktop and Start screen apps in Windows 8?

3. Do you remember making any software or hardware change on the computer prior to the issue?

4. What is the make and model of the computer?
