Windows Update error 80245001

Hello, I have seen this question asked many times on the forums, but I have never seen a solution that is confirmed to work. This problem has been persisting for months.

I am currently running Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit.

It has both Avast! antivirus and MSE installed are both up-to-date.

I am using the Avast! firewall. There are no other anti-malware programs running.

I did have an fsquirt.exe hijacker virus that I had to use Combofix for along with a few other utilities to remove, under advice from the MBAM experts, which is when I believe the issue began.

Whenever I run Windows Update I will immediately receive an 80245001 error. I have tried multiple solutions that are posted on the other threads. I have disabled the Avast! firewall and enabled the Windows firewall, but this has not worked. I have tried all the solutions shown here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/error-code-80245001/8dbd369e-01c3-4176-8588-136d4058b621 without success.

Windows update also has no update history at all and also states it has never been updated.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your security arrangements break the basic rule that you should not install two anti-virus products!

Actually it does not, Avast! has been designed to compliment MSE so as to not interfere with it and to catch anything that MSE misses. However even with it uninstalled, the update error continues.

The providers of a number of anti-virus products make similar claims. It does not make the claims true.

Ditto! And let me add, for DevinSmith6714's benefit, that running two
at once degrades your performance and creates the risk of problems as
they interfere with each other.

Fair point, but it seems to be at least more effective and I have not had any issues, if anything its been far more effective than MSE has been thus far.

I was using the Avast firewall but decided to shut it down before completely uninstalling Avast and switching back to the windows firewall.

Usually this is the case, but as I said, and as I have also checked, MSE and Avast work seamlessly together, and at least gives the option to add it as a secondary scanner, and having both running never had any noticeable impact on performance like say Norton AV would.

However even with only one the lack of windows update remains.

Also I was advised to run an SFC scan earlier which also found no integrity violations.

I suggest you run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool in normal mode and copy and paste the results in a reply for further analysis:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Run the Tool and when it completes click the Copy button, open a text file like Word or Notepad and select Edit, Paste. You can paste directly into a reply here. Open a reply, right click and select Paste.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

One other thing I should ask, the Windows backup utility always throws up a 'shadow drive' error whenever I try to use it, could that possibly have something to do with this as well? Normally id just reinstall Windows, but trying to find a backup utility for my 1TB HDD has been difficult.
