Initializing Hard drive ERROR... (an I/O device error)

Hello,

when I try to 'initialize' my second Hard drive - a pop-up says...

the request could not be completed because of an i/o device error.

I have Windows 7.
and the hard drive that isn't initializing, is new and didn't have anything on it - and just put in.

I really need this fixed asap, so I can start using the extra space the hard-drive will give me.

Has anyone ever seen or had this prob before?
your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

Kind regards

Type Disk Management in the Search Box above the Start Button and press the ENTER key. The window that opens is split into two panes. The top pane contains details of the partitions. You are interested in the bottom pane which contains a lost of Disks (Drives). They are listed down the left side of the pane like this Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2 etc., CD-ROM 0.

One of the Disks will lists the partitions on the Disk from left to with details like System (C:), 149.76GB NTFS, Healthy ((Boot, Pagefile, Primary Partition) followed by other partitions. This is your original drive. There should be a second disk which does not contain this type of detail. You need to tell us what it says about this disk.

Hi,

The most likely cause of this error is a disk issue on that hard drive. Check with the drive
maker's support. Sometimes you can run their Diagnostic Utility to correct the issue. Or
the drive will need to be replaced.

Other "possible" causes are the cabling or even something wrong with the hard disk controller
or BIOS on that computer (very rare yet is possible).

I tried the hard drive in another computer, and it was able to be detected and be initilaized...

so do you know what the problem is, now that we know there's nothing wrong with the hard drive?

thank you

Same issue ( 80 GB external hard drive not initialized) after upgrading to Windows 10. Rolled back to Windows 7 no problem after that. Seems to be a Windows 10 issue.
