Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working - Windows 7 Pro

My dad has a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Professional and a 2nd Monitor.  He downloaded an update from Microsoft and now gets the Catalyst Control Centre error and his mouse stopped working.  This isn't the first time.  What is causing this error and how do I fix it permanently?
Answer
Answer

You have win7 yet posted to a Vista group???

How to fix; run winupdate, under settings turn off reccommended updates. Then in the devices/drivers that have been updated roll back the drivers. Or go to Tosh site, specific for your model and reinstall the correct drivers (graphics and touchpad at least)
