Toolbar, file folder icons, .pdf thumbnails, WordPad line spacing and font defaults + deleting printing page numbers, opening (in Word) Rockwell font documents written in Works + installing Rockwell fonts in Word.__

October 17, 2010

I am trying to set up our new computer running the Windows 7 Ultimate operating system.  The manufacturer's (Hewlett-Packard) technical service personnel referred me to you because my questions relate to Microsoft-only subjects.  I do not want to set up an "XP Virtual Computer System"; instead I just want to understand and hopefully control the features -- listed below -- in Windows 7.  Thank you for your kind consideration of my questions:

# 1) The "Standard Buttons" toolbar from Windows XP -- the toolbar with icons like the red "X" for deleting -- is nowhere to be found.  How do I set up the "Standard Buttons" toolbar in Windows 7?  Thank you.

# 2) How do I remove the file folder icon pictures that obscure my seeing their thumbnailed content inside -- even when I use the "Extra Large Icons" feature on the "View" menu?

# 3) How do I show ".pdf" files as thumbnails in Window 7's "My Scans" folder and in its "My Pictures" file?  They appeared as miniature versions of the scanned documents in Windows XP but now I can only view an Adobe Acrobat logo (even though my scanner does not use Adobe software).  Thanks very much.

# 4) WordPad in Windows 7 --

(A) How do I make the Line Spacing icon (top row - right side) stay fixed in place to allow line-to-line (without blank lines in between them) spacing?  Right now, the spacing keeps jumping back from "1.0" to something else and never allows me to copy and paste E-mails into WordPad without adding in all the extra blank lines.  Thank you again.

(B) How can I make "Arial 12" my default font in WordPad instead of "Calibri 11" -- meaning Arial 12 should appear as soon as I click on WordPad?

(C) How do I remove the page numbers which appear -- unwanted by me -- on the bottom of every WordPad page which I print out?  Thanks.

# 5) Microsoft Word ("Office Home and Business 2010" edition) in Windows 7 --

(A) How do I open all my "Microsoft Works" invoices which were typewritten in a combination of both "Rockwell" and "Ariel" type fonts?  Windows 7 is only showing the "Ariel" portion of each invoice page ... with the "Rockwell" sections of the same page appearing as "junk symbols" ... and "Rockwell" is no longer listed as a Microsoft font.

(B) How do I install "Rockwell" as a font in Microsoft Word for Windows 7?  Thank you again.

Thank you very much.
