receiving windows update error 0x80244018 for "Feature update for Windows 10 version 1809"

I'm getting error 0x80244018 when I try to download the "Feature update to Windows 10 - version 1809" through windows update.

I am somewhat surprised, since I recently wiped (formatted) the entire hard drive through a destructive restore, then reinstalled windows, an antivirus, etc...

I have already run a virus scan (Avast) and Microsoft's system file checker ("sfc") in an elevated command prompt. However, I don't want to troubleshoot too deeply because I may be doing something that is simply wasting my time.

Does any smart person over at Microsoft have any brilliant ideas to share?

Hi hendis1, you mention Avast, that may well be causing issue with the 1809 Feature update . . .

With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade

Click this link:

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

Disconnect from the Internet

Temporarily disable Avast Anti-virus

Then, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe to begin the upgrade . . .

Try updating to 1809 using Media Creation tool and if it fails let us know.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through Media creation tool or ISO file.
