Remove the message header in the reading pane

Remove message header in reading pane is not possible.

In outlook 2013 i find a large waste of screen space as the header of a message displayed in the reading pane takes up over 1/4 of the full height of the screen/outlook/window. If you are using the ribbon also then you have 4 quarters of screen ribbon/message list/message header/message body.
So you are lucky if the message body starts on the first line, but we all know that most cases you need to scroll the reading pane to see any message even the small ones. If the message has a picture you have to open it to see it as 1/4 nof the screen is not enough to see it all at once.

The message header in the reading pane is not really needed as the same info is listed in the message list above or could be seen if you opened the message. So there should be an option to not display the message header in the reading pane. I am sure many more people would like this option. If Microsoft lead the market place then they need to listen to there customer as to the usability of there products.

Hello Rainey,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community.  Sorry for the delayed response.

The ‘Hide header information’ was a known bug issue in Outlook 2010 and this option to hide has been removed in Outlook 2013 version.

You can send your feedback to the Office Customer Preview team regarding this by following the steps below:

1. Inside any new Office application you’ll see a yellow smiley face in the top-right corner. Click on the face and choose either Send a Smile to send positive feedback or Send a Frown to send negative feedback.

 2. In the window that appears, provide details about your feedback or issue. Also, be sure to provide a link to this thread.

3. Next, you can choose whether or not to send a screenshot. You can also enter your email address so the Office team can contact you directly if they have any questions.

Note: Most feedback requests do not result in responses from the Office team.

4. Click the Send button at the bottom of the form to send your feedback.

Thanks.

You have got to be kidding me - you can't turn off the header?  I'm with the other folks complaining about this - some of us just want email - not all the social debris that's included and forced on us in this header nonsense - give us back the control...please.

Then fix the bug and put it back in.

This is such a vexing problem that no solution can be found therefore amputation is the path for this feature?

C'mon guys, lots of wasted space that I'd like to get back.  I like the product but this is a rather silly way to deal a bug that started in a previous version aka plenty of time to figure out the problem.

This is a big problem in Outlook 2013. I agree with others. I can't see the message itself because of the gigantic mail header in the reading pane. The first thing a mail client should do is to display the mail; this is just the opposite in Outlook 2013. I can only see a sentence or two because of this faulty design.

Such a shame and pity.

I concur 100%. I run Outlook on a 17" laptop and there simply is not enough screen space to support the reading pane anymore because the header information is so obnoxiously large. Even after removing the people picture feature. The reading pane is an essential feature for an e-mail client. I urge Microsoft to allow individual users to customize their experience. After a long weekend of trying to make Outlook 2013 meet my needs....I am rolling back to 2010. Doing a side by side comparison of the two....2013 is inferior.

Additionally, removing the To-Do bar was unwise. Blowing up the folder list to double the font size (and eating more screen space) didn't help the cause.

Deeply disappointed.

Let us remove the uneeded header info in the reading pane.

I agree that the reading pane header is too big in outlook 2013. I prefer the reading pane on the bottom of the screen. Essentially 5 lines of duplicate text take up the center of my screen. The text is duplicate as the FROM/SUBJECT/RECEIVED information is available in the inbox (directly above the reading pane).

This renders the center, most important portion, of the screen unusable and full of white space. I'd like to remove the header completely if possible.

Office 2013 looks promising, but we've got some visual things that need to be tweaked before I recommend upgrading from 2010 to my company.

I agree too.  The Message Header takes up way to much vertical space and there is No room to view the message itself. That header layout needs to be changed to use as little vertical screen space as possible and allow users to choose how much detail to include.

It's examples like this that will sink Microsoft.  I can understand having the header but allow users to turn it off.  It's called flexibility Steve!

More examples of inflexibility like this can be found in Sharepoint as well.

More warnings for Steve and MS,

Read #6 as it relates to MS Office.

I just installed Outlook 2013 a few minutes ago... after setting it up, the FIRST thing I did was check to see how I could remove the Reply/Reply All/Forward buttons and minimize the header.

Bang... 5 minutes after installing the program, I'm here, learning I can't remove it.

There's also no smiley or frowny face for me to give feedback.

Terrible user experience, and I'm only 5 minutes into Outlook, can't wait to see what awaits me in the rest of the Office suite.
