Unable to delete/Remove bold black line from Word 2007 document

I have this word document and I have inserted underline but for some reason when I hit the enter/return key it placed a black bold line. I can’t get rid of it and now I have several of those lines in my document. I took the paragraph and copied over to a new document & the bold line came along with it. I am frustrated because I can’t get rid of this line. I used the paragraph marker to make sure it wasn't a page break & it's not.  HELP !!!!!
