OneNote 2016 freezes(not responding) very frequently on Surface 3

Hi, I am using OneNote 2016 to take notes in my class but find it very annoying.

I bought a surface 3 with a surface pen, and downloaded Office 2016 Professional(64-bit) from my university's websites(activated normally).

Since the wireless network condition is poor, I set the app[desktop OneNote 2016] to save my notebook on the local disk.

But recently, (I mean from yesterday; before, all were right) this problem occurred:

For example, when I am writing smoothly with the pen, suddenly the app turns white(indicating not responding). While I thought it may need to restart, after ~10 seconds(depends, sometimes only 2 s) the OneNote 2016 can revive from the freeze, and all of my documents are saved, without any loss.

But...Though without my documents missing, the freeze comes too frequently.

About every 10 minutes(I didn't count it strictly, it is just so often!) I have to suffer one more time.

...Can anyone give me some help? It makes me so frustrated.

Here is some conditions of my advice, which might help to exclude some causes.

I have tried to repair the Office in the Control Panel, not work.

When I use OneNote 2016, I turn off all the background app(in fact I didn't install anymore) and wireless connection to save power, but connecting to the network didn't help.

I have opened the Bluetooth(since the pen need), and tried re-connect the surface pen, not work. In fact, the pen need not make a Bluetooth connection(if I just use it to write and erase things).

The pen's version is for surface pro 4, but it does support older surface. I do not think this is the cause.

This problem happened from yesterday, but during the time I haven't updated any thing on my surface 3.  So I don't think the freeze is because of the Surface 3's poor performance , but I just cannot figure it out.

Thx.

Er.. I have no idea this problem should be classified into surface or office.

Let’s refer to the following steps to disable Hardware Acceleration in OneNote and check how it works.

  1. Click the File tab.

  2. Click on Options. And Click on Advanced tab.

  3. Under Display, select the Disable hardware graphics acceleration check box.

  4. Click Ok and verify the results.

Meanwhile, you may also update your Office and Windows drivers and check if it helps.
