Hacking Epidemic

Like many people, I have been a fan of the Call of Duty games. However I decided to return to COD 4 after a long break playing MW2/BLOPS for a blast and was greeted with just about every game infested with hackers of different varieties that has already been described in numerous posts on this forum.

Is the developer solely responsible for ensuring game exploits are patched? Cant MS put pressure on the developers to patch these games?

It seems to me that Infinity Ward and Treyarch basically cant be bothered to patch the game because it isn't the latest in the series etc etc

I see from other posts that Moderators are banning people based on complaints. Well this is something but that is relying on people to send a complaint in the majority of cases.

I wouldn't ordinarily post on a forum over this but this is a paid service. So what are MS and developers doing to ensure the experience of the majority of users isn't ruined. Basically COD4 and WAW cant be played any more...

Hopefully something is done about this.

I'm not sure if MS can pressure the developers to patch their games. However, from reading the suspensions forums, it does seem that they are not relying on complaints alone. It seems that they have actually been monitoring the games themselves and banning anyone they see.

MW2 has been modded in different ways since it was released OP, its pretty much always been broken in one way or another. And WaW has been the same way for months. Personally I think MS should remove access to these games from the service, that would make the Dev's/Publishers pull their collective fingers out alright.

This has been going on so long and nothing has been done, makes you think nothing ever will be.

The XBLPET have been playing MW2 a lot, or so it seems and anyone caught using infections is permabanned.

Infinity Ward no longer cares about Call of Duty 4 and can do little do to the weak security at the time of release. The only thing would be to implement storing the xp server-side, like Black Ops and Halo Reach although even those games have loopholes. Call of Duty 4 is not going to be fixed to combat these mods. I can assure you that Modern Warfare 3 will have multiple security features. Nothing is 100 percent secure.

The Black Ops and Reach holes are plugged within hours of them appearing with those found using them banned shortly after. If the hackers in question were a little more discrete about their activities instead of uploading it straight to YouTube with some triumphalist self entitled commentry they might last longer.

"Nothing is 100 percent secure."   This is true but it doesn't give a company the right to not fix or support their product.  I mean if every AV, firewall, IT security solutions company or even the IEEE lived by that motto there'd be no interwebz. :)  Bottom line is that MS may not have the ablity to put pressure on them directly... but they do have the ability to influence heavily.  I belive the OP has a good reason to be miffed.

You do realize that there is a way to still go online with jtags don't you? There are few people who know it but there will always be a way to hack a game. Cheater is in college right now so I'm going to say MS/and developers security is at best college level security. As for infinity ward and their issues with employees leaking information I'd say they have no right to modify anything associated with MW and MW2.

It's their game therefore they can do whatever they like with it. I don't understand this entitlement culture that's prevalent in the hacking community this "I want therefore I must get" train of thought.

Fine job of hacking Black Ops you're doing by the by (oh that's good sarcasm).

I still can't believe how many hacker/moders you will find while playing WAW online. when a friend of mine comes over he prefers to play WAW and we played for 3 hours and every games had at least one hacker, some games had like 3. Its pretty obvious that treyarch doesn't give a crap about keeping the people playing their games happy. It seems to me that the only thing they are focusing on is making the lousiest game for the biggest profit(Black ops). I cant stand that game I feel like they didn't put a lot of love into that project.

Hi Everyone.

Thanks for your input.

Vernier Snake: It has been some time since I last played MW2 up until a couple of weeks ago and perhaps I missed the hackers?

My real issue is not so much with annoyance of hacking. You are all correct that its a cat and mouse game but this is why we patch games! Its more the fact that nothing has been done about it. This is disappointing, as I feel COD4 was the best COD (If only they had host migration).

For me the community went downhill in MW2. Yes the game is good but the lobbies and general play seemed to get very noobish with one game being a fierce battle to win domination and the next being a complete rinsing for the other team, as well as some of the imbalances in perks etc

Now Black Ops did actually address some of these issues (Flak Jacket anyone!) but graphically it seemed unpolished and I haven't witnessed hacking on this game that I could say for definite.

Are you all looking forward to MW3 or not? Has COD run its course? I know COD4 still has a big following on the pc...

Is there any people we can write to who can take the communities feedback on board?
