Constantly getting "Sign in with controller" on first sign in attempt

I've been get this error for the last week and have tried everything to try and get it fixed. Whenever I sign into my Xbox one console first thing in the morning. I sign in, but it then signs me out and I get a notification that I can't sign in, and I need to use a controller.

I have been getting error codes sometimes aswell when I try to sign in using a controller... 0x87DD001E... 0x87DD000F and 0x87DD0001E. Asking to try again later or check your account at Xbox.com.

I've tried so far checking my account on xbox.com, deleted kinect sign in data and re-run calibration, various reboots including a full power down, I've removed mine and every account on my console then put them on again. I even did a full factory reset which seemed to fix it but after a day or two the error returned.

So I'm at a loss as to how to fix this or even what the error is. Can anyone help me with this.

Decided to try something else. This time I unplugged everything from the console when it was turned off, then plugged everything back in. Not sure if it was any help but will have to see.

I've spoken to support on twitter and they asked me to remove my profile(don't worry all your saves are backed up online. Then to perform a power cycle of the console then re-add the profile. Again will have to see if this fixes it.

Hello Nemesis971,

I had the same problem. One question, do you have passcode on your account?

I'm getting this problem as we'll, it seems like support is ignoring this issue... I'm getting a different error code though

Hi Lee

No never used a passcode.

I've been in contact with support for the past couple of days trying loads of things but with no joy.

Two things that may be causing the issue are any of you using Xbox 360 before they try to sign in, usually occurs if I've been on it and left Xbox one on instant on standby.

And are any of you on Virgin Media and currently using Superhub 2, because even though I'm using a Superhub 1 I've been asked to set IP-sec passthrough to on. Not really sure if its been fixed as only just set it last night but you may want to try setting it to see if this can help any of you.

Hmm, well I had that problem but only because I had a passcode on my account. But, just a suggestion, if all else fails you could always do a factory restore. I know it's a pain to have to download all of your games, apps n stuff...

Hi @Lee

thanks for the suggestion, but I'd tried a factory reset a week ago, seemed to fix it for a day or two but then it reoccurred. Tried everything I can thing of even unplugging all the cables but with no joy. Support on Twitter seem to think its an error with my account but everything appears correct.

So I'm at a lose to what is causing this to happen, if it was constantly happening every time I signed in I'd get in touch with phone support.

how do you do a factory reset and what are the risks/losses? will my save games come back when I restore my live id?  rank in cod/titanfall, progress in tomb raider, etc?

I assume I will needto re-install all the games before playing, probably re-download all the patches.

I am having this same problem, it's quite annoying.

Hi Ixll

There are no risks/losses that I know of in doing a factory reset, you will have to re-download everything but all your saves/progress is saved to the cloud on Xbox one so you can just re-sync them.

To perform a factory reset goto Settings - System - Factory reset.

Unfortunately in my case this DID NOT fix my issue as its still reoccurring. In fact nothing that I've tried so far has worked

Power cycle

Hard reboot

Re-downloading my profile

Reset kinect sign in data

Factory reset

Resetting my network

Enabling IP-sec passthrough on my Virgin Media Superhub

My account security settings are up to date

I am currently testing my console on a different account, but I'm not confident this is helping. Had no issues so far after one day. Of course I've then got to get back in touch with Xbox support on twitter to see if they can work out why my main account is having intermittent sign in issues.

I do have a 360 that gets regular use in between Xbox One sessions on the same live account so that could have an impact I guess.  Maybe if I factory reset then turn off the instant on feature, things will improve.  The frustrating thing is that this seems to mostly be effected by Ghosts.  Playing Titanfall or Tomb Raider doesn't seen to be an issue although I play them far less often.
