Windows Vista has failed to update every update since Set. 08

Windows has not updated since Sept. 08 every update has failed. I have tried going into Tools Internet Options > Security >Click 'trusted sites' icon >Click Sites > uncheck 'require server verification'.
Tried to re-register  dll's individually, but that failed as well.
Also did  Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security Settings > Ensure that the two boxes "Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3" are checked.
I have gone to windows website tried their update check etc. Tried the suggestions on TheWinVista Club.
I have done everything I can find to try, I'm using a Gateway Purchased in 2007.
I would be very thankful for any help you can give me!

    Hi LadyJulianna,

I was doing some research in regards to your failing Windows update issue and came across this article which I’m hoping may help you.  Have a read and see if this makes a difference.

You can also try the following:

To stop the Windows Update service, you must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control
Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative
Tools.

2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password
or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop.

To delete temporary update files
1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed, typically
drive C.

3. Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the
SoftwareDistribution folder.

4. Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files
and folders in the folder. If you are prompted for an administrator password
or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

5. Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click
the Download folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. If
you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the
password or provide confirmation.

To restart the Windows Update service
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control
Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative
Tools.

2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password
or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Start.

Try and run the updates again.

Another suggestion is to try and Install each update at one at a time. Those that still fail, download separately.  Install one, reboot and repeat as often as needed. Windows update will likely still want you to install them even if succeeded. Right click and hide the update if it has already succeeded.  I know this is not a solution, but perhaps a workaround.

You can try Dave’s suggestion and see if that helps as well.

Please let us know if you make any progress.
