I have all my XP data backed up using the Backup/Restore feature in XP.
How do I restore them to Windows 8.
(Microsoft: You told me to back up my XP data before upgrading. Done! You didn't tell me not to use your own facility for backing up. Letting the programmers design the code again???)
My desktop crashed and I had to go to Win8, because there was nothing else immediately available. I also had a bkf backup on external hard drive. After searching the Microsoft help pages and finding no help, I found an old XP laptop and connected the
external hard drive to it. I was able to restore the backup files onto the external hard drive, then reconnect the hard drive to the Win8 desktop. That has worked OK so far.

There is a downloadable utility for windows 7 that will read and extract xp backup archives. I don't know if it will run in Win8, but even if it does not, it may be easier to find a Win7 machine...
