NVIDIA graphics driver issue after Windows 7 updates downloaded
Hi,
Packard Bell ixtreme X6620 UK
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce GT220 1024MB Graphics display driver (v 270.61)
Since downloading Windows 7 updates earlier this week that included Windows 7 SP1 and an update for my NVIDIA graphics driver, I’ve been plagued with constant freezing of my machine that only a forced reboot will clear.
I believe this is linked to my NVIDIA graphics card as I’m constantly getting the following notification: -
“Display driver stopped responding & has recovered”
“Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver Version 258.96”
Having trawled various forums on the net between crashes this would appear a fairly common problem. I’ve attempted all the suggested fixes - I’ve tried system restore, I’ve uninstalled everything recently downloaded, every combination of uninstalling/re-installing the updates (Windows 7 SP1 etc), I’ve uninstalled then re-installed the NVIDIA driver (including older versions direct from the NVIDIA website), both manually and automatically, I checked my disks for errors, I’ve checked for memory problems, run the hardware diagnostics, checked for viruses etc, I’ve tried all the Microsoft fault fixing wizards, performance and maintenance tips - indeed everything suggested that my technical knowledge will allow me to do.
After 20+ hours of this now, I’ve exhausted both the suggested solutions and my patience. Something that came via the Windows updates has really upset my machine. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Wessex spanner monkey.
