KB3163018 will not install.

Mine won't install either, been like that for a while now.  Super frustrating. 

maybe your Windows Update folders are corrupted, try this...

first use my tool (run as admin) to cleanup Windows Update related folders: http://www74.zippyshare.com/v/J62uSUSQ/file.HTML

and then use this tool to check that everything is ok: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/windows-update-troubleshooter

now open Windows Update and install the pending updates.

This does not work either.
Since i use W10, i have monthly problems with some Windows updates and also with updates from the Windows Store. (Never had any problems with W7 or W8.1)

The problem with some updates are the Windows Firewall settings!!  

I use for my PC the ''Bitdefender Total Security'' and this product manage also the Windows Firewall settings. 
(Windows Firewall settings turns grey if you use a other brand)

Unfortunately, 
you can not simply turn the Bitdefender security temporarily off and manage self the Windows firewall settings.  
- So now, by updates problems... i must remove the Bitdefender first and after the MS update, i must re-install Bitdefender again.

This is not as simple as thought, 
Even with special removal tools, there will always be some remains from Bitdefender left behind on your PC.

Problem now: 
Bitdefender (and also other brands pc security) can not be installed if there are any remains from an security product left on your PC. (So i must spend almost every month an couple hours for hand-removing all these remains on several computers) 

This is really too crazy for words.
- This is not an Bitdefender problem.... But an Microsoft problems. (Microsoft want too force the users for only using Microsoft products)

This is getting ridiculous.

I think it happened on KB3140768 a few Months ago.

I understand that it is a conflict.  There should be NO conflict when an UPDATE program is running.  I can see that Microsoft makes the OS and Microsoft makes the UPDATE PROGRAM.  It is Microsoft's problem that I have a conflict. Microsoft can make an UPDATE program that installs before most CONFLICT code is LOADED.  This is at least the THIRD time this is happening.   

I am also very upset that after some update my Volume Control does not work any more  and this happened before what I had to do is make a NEW USER and Switch.  This is stupid.   Microsoft screwed it up with a crappy update they should be able to fix what they screw up.       

Why do so many update lock up my Computer?  What I mean by locked up no Mouse and no Keyboard.

WOW I can see why Microsoft gave 10 away. **** If I payed for this I would want 500% of my money back :(

I have the same problem with Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3163018).

I do not get any error code at all my pc just sits there stuck on the restart displaying preparing windows updates.

it sat like that all night I had to restart it with the reset button it pops up a notification stating could not complete the updates.

then goes through the whole thing again & again the update tool tells me that the update folder is corrupt and that it fixed the issues but you guessed it. It just will not install someone must know how to correct this.

I had this problem with last months update and this one.  Found the solution then and it worked on KB3156421.  Apparently 3rd party software vendors are making duplicate profiles for some reason and they have to be removed.  I didn't do every step, but did use regedit to remove duplicates that are placed there by 3rd party vendors and rebooted and the update installed fine.  DO NOT remove the profiles placed there by windows 10 as they are required for proper boot up.  If you do your system may not work and will require repair or reinstall.  Thanks to David Clarey, the original author.  Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem with KB3163018, and I do not have a duplicate profile in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\. I'm thinking of hiding this one just like I did 6421.

hi Thanks for the info I don't seem to have a profile with 1007 my reg edit brings up the list but there is no 1007 as you can see from my screen shot below

I had the same issue and managed to get KB3163018 to install successfully using the following procedure:

No secure boot option in my Gigabyte Z77UD3H Motherboard's BIOS settings. I did, however, set all my UEFI settings to UEFI only instead of that and Legacy. Still no effect on KB3163018, though.
