Excel 2002 and latest windows 10 update

Hello,

Ok when you update your computer, it is suppose to make things better right???? Well I updated my windows 10 to the latest release (version 1803), besides totally screwing up my video card(Which I corrected) now whenever I run excel and try to do a formula, excel freezes and then tries to recover. Then the program closes and then offers a recovery version of the file, which I use and still the same.

What gives and how to correct..and don't tell me to update to latest office...BS

It worked yesterday and now it does not.

Any help would be great otherwise this thing is going out the window...my 2nd floor window.

Thank.

Christopher

Excel 2002 is not even officially supported on Windows 10. I suggest if Excel is important to you, you should rollback to your previous release and stick with that. Windows 10 is heading in a path where Office 365 is the primary supported office suite .

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.
or
Press Control + Alt + Delete
Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen
Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart
Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

Click Troubleshoot

Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

It worked on some earlier versions, so did many other third party apps, but it wasn't officially supported.

There are some compatibility issues with Windows 10 version 1709/1803 and certain hardware or software. There is no explanation why a lot of these problems are happening in Windows 10 1709/1803, but the release is significantly flawed. Software and Hardware that once worked in previous versions, just suddenly stops working in Windows 10 1709/1803 after an upgrade and sometimes loses functionality or stability.

If Excel 2002 is important to you, you don't need to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10.

Just as not upgrading to latest version of Office or Excel is not important to you, the same rules can apply to the operating system in your case.

Excel 2002 originally targeted Windows XP and Windows 2000. In fact, it came out seven months before XP's release in 2001.

I tired a new file and did a formula and same thing happens. It tries to recover and then closes. Is their a reset for the formulas or something else.

Just some info for anyone who can help..thanks.

Same issue.  Actually worksheet comes up.  When I enter data (numbers) into a cell that is referenced by a formula, it crashes and does the recover thing.  Starting to seriously looking at Google Sheets.  Worked before the last windows 10 update just fine.

I've met the same problem and I'm sorry to say I've spent quite a lot of time with the problems arisen with Windows 10 2018/04 Update. My remarks:

  1. Windows is an operating system. The manufacturer of an operating system can hardly enumerate all the applications, which will run under it (in your terminology which "are supported"). Instead of this the manufacturer should clearly define assumptions, premises and rules, which the application should fulfil to run swiftly under the system. The Manufacturer should keep the backward compatibility as much as possible, so all applications can run on newer versions of o.s. without problem. In very rare case, when it is not possible keep the backward compatibility, the manufacturer should emphatically explicitly highlight and call attention to non-compatibility issues.
Windows and the MS Office applications (Excel) has the same manufacturer. Assess yourselves, whether the assumptions were fulfilled here. From my perspective, unfortunately, it looks like some products are sold with a time bomb inside. Detonator? Windows Update.
  2. I've met another problem, which I guess is also related to Windows 10 2018/04 Update. It is related to HP ProtectTools Security Manager DPAgent (HPPTSM-DPA), too. HPPTSM-DPA application is usually preinstalled on HP notebooks. Because it is frequently bombing with harassing messages and recommendation, many users try to shut someway its mouth. Various methods are recommended. I decided to disable loading the HPPTSM-DPA at startup. In registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] I deleted from
"Userinit"="C:\\Windows\\system32\\userinit.exe,c:\\Program Files (x86)\\HP\\HP ProtectTools Security Manager\\Bin\\DPAgent.exe,"  the part
    ",c:\\Program Files (x86)\\HP\\HP ProtectTools Security Manager\\Bin\\DPAgent.exe" .
Everything worked fine until the accursed Windows 10 2018/04 Update was installed. Suddenly all the external disk and flash-disk devices were not accessible. To be frank, I must say that after I enabled HPPTSM-DPA, I got the access to external disks back again. Nevetheless I suspect the bad influence of  Windows 10 2018/04 Update here, too.
