Windows 10 Update Failed to Install

I have tried repeatedly to update my Windows 10 x64 including manually downloading the update.

When I manually downloaded the update and opened it to install I received a message that the update was already installed yet my system continues to give me the following error message and to prompt me to restart to complete the install:

2017-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4019472)

Failed to Install

I have downloaded Troubleshooter twice but it hasn't been able to fix my problem -- see the attached screenshot.

I have this exact same problem. Windows has tried and failed 8 times to install this and it's trying again. It keeps uninstalling it just after it installed it during restart saying that it was unable to do so and is now uninstalling. Now it's trying to install it again.

I have tried the troubleshooter fix and even though it says everything is fixed, the problem persists. I have tried everything I can find. Hours upon hours. Microsoft needs to be held accountable for some of these things, as some things they do are criminal.

Coming back for update: Fixed!

Finally tried these things and it worked, I don't know if it all together was the solution or just one of them:

1. Did all the check/scan/restore health

2. Disconnected all peripherals

3. Logged in through local user account

4. Resized (increased) my Reserve and Recovery partitions

Hi It's very hard to help everyone here on this thread. You all don't have the same problem. I can give you a list of things to try; but for some, I would suggest the nuclear. That's a clean install.

Check these wiki links created by my friends Greg Carmack and Andre Da Costa.  Let me know how things go. I'll give you my best shot and hopefully we'll Get-er-Done. Hopefully my friends will join us on this thread!

After 5th unsuccessful attempts, i've tried to stop known background services and/or softwares (not issued by microsoft of course) (ex: icloud services+drive, ipod, adobe acrobat update) and patch installation succeeds one hour later.

Good luck,

You don't have to go "nuclear" at all. The other day I couldn't even get passed the black screen with dots rotating. After everything, I went to the "Reset Windows" option and "Keep files". Yes, that re-installs windows and deletes third party programmes, but at least you are keeping all your personal files and data.

Since I did that, the new update installed without a hitch.

Sometimes a good old fashioned spring cleaning is just what the doctor ordered.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I'm glad a reset worked for you. I agree a good spring cleaning is good. Most PC users here on the forum don't want to do a reset or a clean install. You can keep all your personal files, programs, and data by backing them up on a external drive. Reinstalling your programs is the biggest job, and if you are a smart PC user, that's really not that big of a problem either.

Thanks for your reply. It will help others. PC users forget about all the bloatware they have accumulated over the years and don't realize it might interfere with the 'creator' update.

Your reply is appreciated!
