New Surface Book Pro, upgraded firmware, still will not go to sleep

Hi,

I just purchased a Surface Book 16gb i7 and noticed that frequently it does not go to sleep when the power button is pushed, or when the laptop is closed. Repeatedly, this causes major issues when I put the laptop away, as it drains battery over the next few hours, and my full charge is gone when I reopen.

I know there was an update for this (although I purchased in July of 2017), which I manually installed from the Microsoft site.  Windows Update does not give me Surface updates because windows is managed through my place of employment, and they only push 'approved' updates.

I believe this is 'Surface Management Engine' which my current driver shows 7/26/2016 (11.0.15.1003), which I believe is after the last update, so the fix should be included.  But, in fact, it is not.

Is there something else I need to do to fix this?  When off battery, the settings are to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and that instruction is clearly being ignored by the system.

they may also have group policies that control your Surface. Since this is a
managed device, suggest you contact your IT folks about this.
 
In the meantime, make sure hibernation is enabled. Then open a cmd prompt and
type
 
shutdown /h
 
instead of using hardware to action this.

So, did all this.  Still draining battery, but slower.

I think the interim resolution is to full shutdown...?

This is insane.

if you are in the US, you might want to go to the closest physical retail
Microsoft Store and have them check out your configuration. Again, I don't know
if your IT folks have some group policies in place than have an impact here, but
assuming they don't, you could experiment with disabling wake timers. Make a
note of your settings and create a restore point before you make changes. See
