Attachment opening issues with Office 2013

I have been having issues where I can't open attachments for office files from OL 2013. If I try to open a powerpoint or excel file the app launches but NOTHING happens. If I save the file to the local disk it still won't open.

I have figured out what the issue is. It is the protected mode. If I go to the trust center and disable the protected mode I can open the docs. MS has broken something in the handling of protected mode.

Thanks for the helpful advice. In the Trusted Documents settings I unchecked all three options and now email attached files open just fine quickly. Problem solved!
