Convert .pst file to .ost

I just purchased a new laptop.  My Outlook on my old laptop used the Outlook.pst file to keep all my folders and messages.  Apparently the Outlook on my new laptop uses a .ost file.  How do I convert my old Outlook.pst file to a .ost file so I can have all my old info on my new laptop?

Answer

On your new laptop an ost file is used because of the method you used in adding your mail account, apparently you used the auto account setup page which would have added it as an IMAP mail account.

On the old PC with outlook closed copy the primary pst, probably named outlook.pst to a memory stick, from stick copy to \My Documents\Outlook Files\ on the new PC, then within MS Outlook, File >Open & Export>Open Outlook Data File........browse to the pst you copied and select it. You will then have that data file and all its contents, available to view/interact with in the Outlook tree View pane
