What were you thinking Cole?!?! (LA noire spoilers)

I really dont understand this at all its just completely out of the blue randomness from no where, Cole is a famous war hero and LA's best ever detective not only that but he has 2 kids and a wife hes been married to for years, basicly meaning that he has huge reputation to uphold. but why why why why OH why does he get funky with that german druggy  woman!!!!!!?!?!?!?!

 I mean wtf man just wtf, alls i could do is wsit and watch cole destroy himself I though he was going back to her apartment to interrogate her not "interrogate her" I jsut dont understand why he would do that, I mean for gods sake he was working Ad Vice...............

You have to realize what era this game takes place in. Cole's wife was probably all conservative. Missionary only. No frills. Where as the German was probably all types of kinky. Sexy outfits, every position, stick it anywhere. People have basic needs. It is a spouses job to fulfill those needs. But if those needs are not met, then it's only natural to fulfill them somewhere else.

I think the point in that affair was to tell the audience that everyone is not perfect, not even Cole Phelps.

Like Sword Style said its accurate to the era, people got married simply because it was expected of them. The result were many couples that got married really young before most people knew who they were. You also have to remember that at the time women were not treated or regarded as equals as they are today.

 

Had Cole not been so close to the truth its likely the affair could have slid by rather then the LAPD using it to publicly destroy him. Who would believe a dishonored cop? Cole saved Jack because he had more potential with the DA to fix the problems then he could from within the LAPD. This was a real problem back then.
