Black Ops online play problems

Hi everyone

 im having kind of a weird problem with playing black ops online and wondering does anyone have any solutions or idea as to what might be wrong.

 When i go to multiplayer on black ops its says connecting for about 20 seconds then the following message appears:- "the call of duty:black ops server is not available at this time. please try again later" My friend has tried it across the street and it works fine on his.  All other call of duty games appear to work fine just for some reason black ops wont play online.  Has anyone ever seen this or have any idea what could be wrong?

Clear your system cache:

System settings> memory> Device options> Clear cache

It is possible your account has been banned from the Black Ops servers. Have you done anything that would warrant that? Click the link below to find out:

One way to find out for sure is to put your profile on a USN Flash Drive and take it to your friends house. If you can connect from there to the game then the issue lies on your console or network. If you cannot connect you are banned.

It shouldnt be banned as the xbox is brand new.  Ive had a friend come over and look at it and apparently the numbers in the top left of the screen when you start black ops are different to his.  Does this mean im on a different version and if so how do i update manually?

Just an update to whats happening.  WEIRD.  I can try the game in my sons xbox in the living room with this error message.  I then take that same game upstairs to my old xbox360 premium, recover his gamer tag on it and the game works fine, as advertised.  That has seriously mithed me.  The problem has to lie within the new xbox but i havent a clue where? Ive tried recovering his gamer tag on the new xbox but that doesnt seem to fix it either.  Any more idea??

The numbers at the top right change as and when Treyarch release hotfixes for the game. For some reason your son's console isn't getting that update. Try getting in touch with Treyarch via their customer support or you can bug Josh Olin on Twitter (JD_2020 - Treyarch's community manager) and see if they can help.

Alloy, is the game version (those numbers you referenced) the same or different on the two consoles in your home?

they are the same.

Ive just taken my sons xbox over to a friends house.  I used my xbox, my black ops game and my controller and it worked fine.  The problem clearly lies with my modem.  Im using AOL on a wireless speed touch router.  It must be block that 1 xbox from getting onlline to black ops servers.  Has anyone got a clue about what might be happening
