Error 1606 Could not access Network Location %Appdata%

Since yesterday when trying to open Adobe reader 8 I got the Error 1606 msg.

I then tried upgrading to Adobe reader 9 and could not complete the operation due to the same error 1606

I then looked through all of the MS support and did not find help to fix the problem.

I then followed the Adobe Tech note solutions 1-5 and

I opened the regedit and checked the Microsoft Office and all looked good

I then followed the solution 2 Adobe Tech note to export and delete the HKey_local_machine \Microsoft\Office  key and tried to enstall Acrobat and it came back with the error 1606

I restored the registry and tried Solution 3

I then Sol3 and tried to remove Msft Office 2007 and while uninstalling got the error 1606

Now I am not sure where to turn. Pls help. Jim

Answer

Hi Pollybrown,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers.

Do this to search for the key in the Registry Editor:

i. Click on the “+” symbol next to HKEY_CURRENT _USER and then search for Software.
ii. Then Click on the “+” symbol to expand “SOFTWARE”
iii. And Likewise, for the rest of the keys.

Follow the Steps in the article “You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549
