I have a longtime habit of making a file backup & storing it off site to protect my desktop computer files from a possible fire, weather event, computer theft, etc. With Win XP every month I created a new backup on a USB flash drive & take it to a secure location. I was using NT Backup. The next month I would create an entirely new backup on USB flash & exchange it with the previous USB flash drive. The file size I wish to backup is not that large so a 8 or 16 GB USB flash is large enough.
This does not work with Windows 8. It seems to me that Win 8 is designed to use the same backup device & have it automatically do the backup on a set schedule. If I remove the flash drive & store off site then one month later I use a different USB flash drive. It looks to me that Win 8 "File History" wants me to always use the same flash drive as I used before.
Is there a way to do a Win 8 File Backup on my own schedule, using alternating USB Flash Drives? I'm usually only concerned about current files & backup space needed is not that large, about 4 GB. Should I just continue to use the older NT Backup?
