How much RAM can Windows 8 64 bit use ?

I am running Windows 8 64 bit version on a Lenovo X301 with 8 gb RAM.  I do not seem to be able to use more than 3,5 gb with my 2013 Office (preview).  The Office 2013 Preview is a 32 bit version.  Is this the reason or are there other reasons / tweeks ?

3. Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to the issue?
