How do I change the default file explorer view to large icons?

Sorry to know that you face issues with Folder properties . As I get it right you want to set the Large icons in Windows Explorer.

Perform the steps below and check.

a: Press Windows logo + E to open Windows Explorer.

b: Now click the View tab present at the top of the screen.

c: Now select large Icons.

What is driving me absolutly crazy is no setting for sub folders. 2000 sub folders with files.

Everytime I open a sub folder it opens in detail with no way I can figure out to set all sub folders in a folder to large icons! If you close that drive and go back you have to reset that folder and sub folder and files again! Very frustrating

I went as far as the folder never thought to do the same with files.

so far seems to work.

Microsoft made this one a real puzzeler.

It took me a while to figure this out. But I think this works.

1. Open up a window in File Explorer (or hit START BUTTON followed by the letter E).

2. Open up the View Ribbon, and select the view option. In your case, you would select "large icons".

3. Still in the View Ribbon, select the "Options" icon (on the far right). If a menu drops down, select "change folder and search options".

4. From this point, things should look just like Windows XP or Windows 7. The "Folder Options" dialog should pop up. Select the "View" tab, and click the "Apply to Folders" button.

Right On.  Microsoft has no clue that File Explorer is so difficult to use. The Microsoft Support Engineer, Jessen P, shows above that he doesn't understand, because he doesn't answer the question.  Only shows how to change once, not forever more. 

No wonder Microsoft can't come up with a consistent name for File Manager|Windows Explorer|File Explorer or whatever it is called.  Give me Finder on the Mac any day.  There are several after market "Finders" for Windows that look similar to Finder on the Mac.  I think I will look at them again.
