"System Error: 1797 The printer driver is unknown" when tried to install old printer driver on Windows 7

Original title: Generic PostScript Printer Driver

I installed Windows 7 on my old XP computer. I downloaded a Generic PostScript Printer Driver (which was also installed with XP).http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=1500

I installed this driver successfully on the newly installed Windows 7 computer, but I got an error message during the installation. Regardless, it is working well.

Here's my problem: I tried installing the same driver on my new Laptop, which also has Windows 7. Failure in AddPrinter is the error message I got: System Error: 1797 The printer driver is unknown.

I need to install this driver. Several other generic drivers simply won't work. Please help.

If you Add a Printer > Add a Local Printer > Use an existing port:File > Next, click on Windows Update. Then, under Generic, there are a number of PS printers listed. It may be a long drawn-out process finding the right one that will work as you want it, but I think that may be your best recourse of action.
