Windows7 losing "pinned explorer shortcuts"

I make extensive use of the "pinned" option for my Windows Explorer so that I can quickly navigate to various Network drives.

This works really well and it is so much faster to navigate to the directories I use frequently.

However, Windows7 has the annoying behaviour of losing all my pinned shortcuts for Windows Explorer every so often.

Has anyone else encountered this issue with losing all their pinned shortcuts for Windows Explorer?

Cheers,
BeeJay.

Answer

Hi Everyone

After this happened to me a couple of times, I just started keeping a current backup of all the files in The AutomaticDestinations and CustomDestinations folders.

I created 2 sub-folders in the My Documents folder, for my user profile, named:

BU AutomaticDestinations, and BU CustomDestinations.

Once a week or after pinning/unpinning any items in any of the Jump Lists, I simply copy the contents of the AutomaticDestinations and CustomDestinations folders into the appropriate BU folder.

If I lose anything in any of the Jump Lists, I can simply replace the contents of the appropriate folder with the contents from the BU folder and everything is restored.
