When was it installed? When did this behavior start? See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.

If the problem repeats then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

Why is there an adapter for a PCIE card? The M2 is a PCIE device so can you plug it in directly? Please clarify as these can matter.

Hi.. Thanks Greg...

   Let me answer these one at a time...  Sata Controller is set to AHCI in the Bios.  This issue has been there since I installed the M.2 NVMe, M.2 Sata SSD PCIe X4 Adapter.  So there is no point in the Restore to go back to.  I need this adapter as there is no M.2 connections on the motherboard... old board.... Asus P8H77-V.   A screen shoot of Disk Management would simple show you a shot of the drive being there after a cold start...  like it is now.... All are showing healthy.. I have a C, F, G, D, H drive....  If I did a restart (Soft Boot)  then it would not show the SSDM.2 H drive and the Standard NVM Express Controller Drive would not load.  For some reason when a Restart (Soft Boot) is made the driver does not load.. so no M.2 drive....  

I asked to see the Disk Mgmt screenshots to read the flags on them. Are you expert on knowing exactly what these flags mean and whether they are correct? This is where we need to start on this. I have been doing this for ten years in forums every day; no one handles more of these cases successfully.

Then look over the special steps necessary to install to NVMe to make sure you did them all.

Thanks for the info....   The top shot is without the SSDM.2 (H) drive, the bottom with the SSDM.2 (H) drive.  The one with is from after a cold boot, the one without is after a restart.... soft boot...

What is Disk2? It shows it's Dynamic which is meant only to span a single partition across multiple hard drives. if not you should move the data off and convert it to Basic:

That is a WD 2TB drive that I use to store and run programs from that I don't want on the C drive.  The C drive is a 2TB Seagate.

Doing this will fix my H drive not being there after a restart ?

I don't know if it will fix the issue, but it is wrong if that is only a single drive for it to be Dynamic. So it's possible it will fix it.

Was there ever a time the NVMe adapter worked without this issue?

Nope... never not since I have installed it... Just caught the fact it was there after computer shut down and was not there if i did a restart.

I've seen this type of issue caused by adapters. Unless they have a long history of being known to work reliably for the purpose, an adapter is always iffy.

Ok.. I will change the adapter...  We will see...
