Announcement: Windows 10 Mobile upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1

As announced on the Windows Blog this morning, we have started making the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade available for eligible Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

Q: Are all phones eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade?
A: To ensure the best experience possible for our Windows Phones customers, we are upgrading devices which will offer a great Windows 10 Mobile experience after the upgrade to Windows 10. Upgrade Advisor app will aid you in understanding your device's eligibility and more information can be found here: http://windows.com/specsmobile

Q: How will the upgrade work? 
A: You can check on upgrade eligibility to Windows 10 Mobile by downloading the Upgrade Advisor app from the Store on Windows Phone (video walk through). On eligible phones, the app will provide and option to Enable Windows 10 upgrade. Once enabled, the update can be downloaded by going to Settings > Phone Updates > Check for updates.  

Q: I have seen that my phone model is on a list of devices that are able to be upgraded but the Upgrade Advisor app states that my phone is not upgradeable, why is this?
A: The availability of Windows 10 Mobile as an upgrade for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices will vary by device manufacturer, device model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations, and a number of other factors. Even though your phone model may be listed as one of those capable of upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile, these additional factors have contributed to your phone not being eligible to receive the upgrade.

Q: I checked the Upgrade Advisor app and it said my phone was not eligible for the upgrade, how do I get Windows 10 Mobile? 
A: The availability of Windows 10 Mobile as an upgrade for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices will vary by device manufacturer, device model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations, and a number of other factors. Even though your phone model may be listed as one of those targeted for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, these additional factors have contributed to your phone not being eligible to receive the upgrade.

Q: I just upgraded my Windows Phone 8.1 device to Windows 10 Mobile, I'm missing some features, why is this? 
A: When you install the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, some features currently on your device will be modified or removed. Some existing Windows 10 Mobile features may have additional requirements to work. Details on these can be found here: http://windows.com/specsmobile

Q: I searched for Upgrade Advisor in Store on my phone but wasn't able to find it - what should I do?
A: The Upgrade Advisor app will only be discoverable on Windows Phone 8.1 devices. If you searched for the app in Store and cannot find it, restart your phone and try again. Alternatively, you can tap this link on your phone to go directly to the app in Store: http://aka.ms/w10mupgradeadvisor

Q: I tapped the link to get the Upgrade Advisor app on my phone and the 'Get the app' button does not work - what should I do?
A: If you tap the link above on your phone to get the Upgrade Advisor app make sure your Internet Explorer settings for Website preference is set to "mobile version"; if it's set to "desktop version" you may find the app download link does not work. Alternatively, go to Store on the phone and search for Upgrade Advisor app directly. 

Q: If I receive a notification from Upgrade Advisor that the Windows 10 update is available for my phone, do I have to update? 
A: No, you can stick with your current version of Windows Phone 8.1. Simply do not select “Enable Windows 10 upgrade” within the app. 

Q: I’m a Windows Insider, what should I do if I want the ‘official’ Windows 10 Mobile upgrade? 
A: As a Windows Insider please read http://aka.ms/W10MInsiderFAQ to get answers for common questions regarding the upgrade. We also recommend visiting http://aka.ms/WIPMDeviceList to understand whether or not your phone is on the program’s supported device list, as this may impact your ability to get future preview updates. If you wish leave the Windows Insider program and check on your device’s eligibility for Windows 10 Mobile using the Upgrade Advisor app, you will need to first go back to Windows Phone 8.1. Q: Can I go back to my previous version of Windows Phone 8.1? 
A: If you upgraded your Windows Phone 8.1 device to Windows 10 Mobile, you can use the Windows Device Recovery Tool to rollback to a previous version. For more info about this tool, see Windows Device Recovery Tool: FAQ.
