how do I get rid of too many duplicate folders in my IMAP account?

when i synced my gmail account to outlook 07 via IMAP, I got all of what you see in the attached image.  I don't understand this.  Not only are all of these folders not necessary, but on a random basis outlook with do a "send/receive" and download messages from gmail that are old from the "junk email", "trash" and "inbox" folders and put them in the "personal folders" section you see in the image.  a 3rd annoyance is when these random "send/receive" operations take place, yet other messages will be downloaded and go to the folders "important", "spam" and "trash" under the "*** Email address is removed for privacy *** > gmail" section in the image.  Is there anyway to consolidate any of this and get rid of some of the duplication that's happening?  everything I need comes right to my "inbox" folder under "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***".  I really don't care about anything else.  thanks guys!

Office 2007 went out of support late 2017 and since that time there have been no updates of any type.

You could see if the inbox repair utility, scanpst.exe can clean up the data file

well I wouldn't want to run that repair tool unless I had a fully backup .pst file that I could import back into outlook in case the tool screwed mine up and deleted stuff i wanted to keep.  I exported my .pst using the instructions here:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/export-or-backup-email-contacts-and-calendar-to-an-outlook-pst-file-14252b52-3075-4e9b-be4e-ff9ef1068f91

I presume that is enuf to protect myself from this tool's mishaps?
