Hyperlink to a jpg in Excel2010 produces unexpected error.

I have a hyperlink in an Excel 2010 spreadsheet to a jpg file. When I click on this, I get a message saying 'An unexpected error has occurred' and file wont open. I get the same issue in Word & Access too.

I'm running Office 2010 Professional SP1 on Windows 7.

All other types of hyperlink work, including tif images. My problem is that I have thousands of JPG files I want to index, so changing the format to TIF isn't an option for me.....

The curious thing is that the same spreadsheet works, opening the jpg via IE9 on my laptop PC - which is the same version of Office! It also works on my company PC running Office 2010 & IE8....

I've run a repair on Office, and un-installed and reinstalled IE9, but this hasn't worked.

There are a couple of other people having the same or similar issues, but I cant find any solutions!

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Does removing and recreating the JPG hyperlinks make any difference?

In which application does the JPG files open when you open them directly (from Windows Explorer)?

This could be an issue with default file association for the .jpg files. You may re-associate the .jpg file type to Internet Explorer or Office Picture Manager, and see if that helps.

Refer the link below on how to set the default file associations in Windows 7.
