I am using Microsoft Office Professional 2003 in my PC. I also use file converter so that I can open the .xlsx documents. But today when I tried to open a .xlsx file it opened showing up an error

"Windows Cannot find "C:<....\.\\file.xlx>".Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search"

could you help me with this error. The file file was opened and I worked on it and saved it. but when I open the file again or  any .xlsx file the error shows up.

Answer

I found that the problem was only happening in user level. But I was unable to reset it.

But today I found a solution:

Thing Required                 :               Microsoft Office CD

Solution:

Go to startàRun àregedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0

In the 12 folder we could see a folder named Excel. Delete the folder.

Now go to Start and search for Excel in the Microsoft Office Folder.

When clicked it will start configuration if you are asked to insert the CD just insert the CD.

After the configuration is completed, you can try accessing your Excel files. It worked for us.

The Office folder differs for different Microsoft Office pack

For Microsoft Office 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

For Microsoft Office 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0

For Microsoft Office 2010: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0
