MAPI error in latest Outlook 2016 (Office365) ?

We use MAPI to send mail from our program.

After the latest update to Outlook 2016 (Build 7967.2139), we have experienced the following problem:

The first mail is sent correctly through Outlook. All mails after that, fail to send.

The new mail session is created successfully, logon to the mailsession is successful, but

the mailsend fails. (No Outlook "Allow"-window appear)

Reverting to the previous build of Outlook solves this problem, but is not an acceptable solution,

as most of our customers use automatic update of Outlook.

Any better solutions?

Hi

I have the same problem too.

In my case the solution is to call MAPI Logon before sending the first email.

Hi Espen,

our software also uses MAPI and ran into the same issue after latest update to Outlook.

We could not come up with a solution or workaround yet. Do you have any new information?

Any clue how to solve this?

Best regards

Marc

We are having same issue since office upgrade to version 1703 (build 7967.2161)

We are running Windows PC version 6.1 build 7601: service pack 1.

Outlook worked as desired on version 1609

Issue first reported on 5/3/2017

There is no error message, the first one launches the allow/ then e-mail screen and completes, as expected, then if launched again, no email screen, no message sent either.  If our program is shut down and restarted, it will once again work the first time, then nothing.   Verified that connect and disconnect was still being sent.

Created a 10 second timer after the command to connect to outlook is given, before proceding.  This will fill in all fields passed except the To: and CC: fields.  Also does not create allow screen, but does send the email if a To: is filled in.

Thanks for your help

Hi Devlin,

I am running Windows 6.1 Build 76901 (Service Pack 1) and Office Professional Plus 2016 Version 1703 Build 7967.2161).

The problem is exactly the same as described yesterday by Glenn and also by Espen two weeks ago.

First time you try to send a mail using (Simple) MAPI it works fine, second time logon works but send fails without further error message. During second attempt the security/allow screen is not even presented.

When you restart our application you will be able to send one mail, second time fails again.

It was reported by several of our clients, running all kinds of Windows versions (7, 8, 10) and builds, but they all have Office 2016 build in common.

It was reported for the first time on May 8th 2017 by one of our clients.

Thank you for your assistance.

Marc

I have the same problem, so I will reply.

The issue started sometime this month (May 2017), can't be more precise.

The error message is a generic "Cannot send mail" error from the custom application (old PowerBuilder application)

Outlook Version is 16.0.7927.1024 32-bit

Troubleshooting so far has been trying

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-msoffice_custom/mapi-error-in-latest-outlook-2016-office365/168ea28a-98b0-4c62-be73-274fb16cca9a and checking settings for programmatic access in Outlook, looking for clues in debug logs for our application. It seems to be doing the exact same thing when sending email the first time (which works) and successive attempts (which fail)

Thank you for the prompt response.

To help us isolate the possible causes of the issue, we suggest launching Office apps in Safe Mode. For the steps on how to launch Office apps in Safe Mode, please refer to this link. Please monitor if the issue still persists in Safe Mode.

We're looking forward to your response.

I updated Outlook to the latest build (16.0.8067.2115) to try this today.

Before I tried Safe Mode, I again tried to send multiple mails from our program, and now it seems to work again !!

No more MAPI errors after the first mail.

Can anyone verify that the MAPI problem is solved in the latest build?

Hi Espen,

we had the same experience last wednesday when we updated to version 1704 (Build 8067.2115).

Today this was verified by some of our customers, who also installed the recent update.

Did anyone find something in any documentation about what was changed in MAPI handling?
