Using document inspector to find personally identifiable information

I am looking to locate PII inside of a Word for Mac document that was sent to me.

Which file format?

If you open the document in a Text Editor, you can see any that is in there.  Tell me which file format, and I can tell you how.

"Document Inspector" is not a feature of Mac Word.  Word for Mac will "remove" PII from the file (see Word>Preferences>Security, check "remove..." and save and close the document).

But it won't "show" it to you, except in the ordinary course of editing.

However, you can oopen the file in a text editor and see it if it's there.

PII covers a lot of territory -- What, specifically, are you referring to?

As John indicated, the Document Inspector is a Win Office feature not included in Mac Office. However, additional to John's suggestion you can use;

  • File> Properties to view/edit much of what falls into the category of Personal Information
  • the Review tab features to Accept/Reject Tracked Changes & delete Comments
