Superfetch Service has been promoted to SysMain. Congratulations !

Hi all,

In recent Insider builds, Superfetch service has been renamed to SysMain in Services console. It was in fact SysMain but was showing up in Services console under the alias Superfetch.

Does anybody know why Microsoft has done this ?

Could it be because its main function was deprecated due to widespread use of SSDs ?

Any ideas ?

Hello suat.cini,

In line with your concern, I wasn't able to gather up precise information regarding the change in the Display Name of Superfetch to SysMain. Although, it still does the same job by maintaining and improving the system performance over time.

You can confirm this or ask our developers directly by submitting a report to our Feedback Hub.

In order to submit new feedback, please follow these steps:

1. On a Windows 10 device, search for Feedback Hub in Cortana search, then launch the app.
2. Navigate to Feedback in the left menu, then press + Add new feedback.
3. Select the Problem, and share any details you think are relevant, and choose an appropriate category and subcategory.
4. Important: If possible, reproduce the problem(s) after clicking Begin monitoring (or Start capture) near the end of the form; Stop monitoring when you’re done.
5. Once you’ve completed the form and monitoring, click Submit.
6. Click Continue using Feedback Hub.

Frankly speaking, I don't have a concern about the name change of Superfetch. It is just plain curiosity of learning why the name change has occurred. Besides, I have read in more than a single web site that Superfetch service is redundant for SSDs. Therefore, I put this service on manual on every reinstall of Windows. That's why I asked if the function of Superfetch is being deprecated.

I didn't think of submitting a feedback hub report, either, till now. But I have come to think that it might be a good idea.

The following screenshot is from Windows 10 Build 17134, a.k.a. April 2018 update. The service Superfetch is there, with the same service name SysMain but different Display name Superfetch.
