Cortana in Canada still not working on Build 14376 !!!

First... Yes... I did put this in Feedback under Cortana

Cortana in Canada is still failing miserably !!! Please... Microsoft Engineers escalate this !!!

The Default Language for Canada is set as French (Canada) and Cortana is insisting on Speaking French and even if the English(Canada) speech packs are downloaded and installed and then selected.... Cortana still will not speak as she wants to download something. Not sure what. And it isn't French (Canada).... as that downloaded automatically despite the fact I don't speak French and haven't since High School... 45 years ago !! And I can't get rid of it.

Now if you had set the Default Speech to Spanish (United States) for the Region United States... then you would have exactly the same problems !!

Also if I do select English (Canada) in the Cortana>Settings) it loses ALL Languages in the drop down and Cortana crashes !!

Only 23.2% of our population uses French (2011 census). 75% use English as their primary language. This is now 5 Builds that Cortana has failed!! Perhaps if ALL your people in the Microsoft Centre in Vancouver had English (Canada) as their default then you might act a lot faster... eh? (<- It's Canadian)

The only way to get Cortana to Talk is to set the Region/Language/Speech all to English (United States). And frankly we would rather be Canadian these days !!

Still the same in build 14379. Cortana wants to change to Canada french.

The real question is how many Builds will it take to get the Development Team to repair the problem??? It took 4 Builds to get an acknowledgement of an issue with the Speech Packs.

And I suspect that there is a significantly HIGH number of Canadian Insiders that have simply given up on using Cortana in English (Canada) and using the English (United States) and selecting the Region as United States as it makes it easier to make things work ! I know I did that on my laptop for several months AFTER the release of Cortana for Canada last September. So the amount of Feedback is likely very low and they likely won't pay attention.

We here at this forums just work on the basic technical troubleshooting and hence when we see any development related issue or an response to add anything new to the Windows 10, we either ask them to go to the MSDN forums or they can directly send the feedback to the Windows Development Team , who try to resolve the issue.

This however, can be a tiresome process and we kindly and humbly request our users to bear with us. And all of the feedback matters to us a lot and processing the same might take a little time.

We just hope that our Development team will roll out the solution as soon as they can so that our users can get a permanent solution for the same.

About 4 builds back, Cortana came in corrupted. On top of this, the only speech pack available was US English so needless to say Cortana and Search were impaired. Finally in build 14377. I got access to Canada English speech packs again and thought I could correct the fact that Cortana was using Canada French for some reason. Even though I set region, language and speech all to Canada English, Cortana insists that it can respond only to French because that is its default language. When I try and reset the language setting in Cortana, the drop down screen does not work and only greys out. Sometime " Canada French is your default language" appears in the instructions above the box and nothing seems to change that. Yesterday I did a reset using build 14379 and it did not repair the issue with Cortana. Is there any way to fix this? Does anybody know if a clean install will repair this- I really don't want to go this route if I don't have to. Surely there must be some kind of work around to reset Cortana's language default if it has been corrupted. HELP!

I did a clean install of 14379 yesterday and there is no difference. The problem still exists.

Thank you....you saved me a lot of work. It would be nice to find a solution..nothing from Microsoft so far. Even called Support but they won't help with preview builds. Nice to know I am not alone with this problem though.

I suppose that could have been the case but I got past it (somehow).  Then my problem was that Search Settings would not work--presumably they are intending to rebuild the index using the change of Language sometime but forgot?--anyway continual "try later".  I had to switch back to United States English only because of that.  Otherwise Cortana only spoke French when I forced her to.

So, did you get a prompt to install En-GB too?  I still haven't tried to find a Speech package for that.

I had exactly the same problem. The build downloaded UK English around build 14343 and I don't know why. I have been having the same problem with settings search and knew it had something to do with Cortana and language. My Cortana is a real mess...wouldn't let me switch to US English either.

Sadly the problem with Cortana in Canada is STILL not fixed in 14383 !!!

We can now set the Speech to English (Canada) but she fails to speak !! Not a word!!! Not even a groan or gasp !!! Instead she goes looking to Bing for the answer. This is NOT right !

It is surprising that Microsoft Development Teams fail to check their work properly. I mean set aside a couple machines and designate them as Canada and try the updates!! Doesn't take super smart person to figure that out. And yes.... I am frustrated !!

(And yes.... once again.... I have entered it in the Feedback Hub.)
