Xbox One as Media Center Extender

Agree, I am simply not buying now.

To be fair, Windows 8 didn't come with WMC had to buy it as an add on, doesn't seem like MS are really digging on it these days

I disagree, they offered it free as a promotion for quite some time and even afterwards it's a very cheap upgrade.

I never dug WMC on the 360. I was always a TVersity type of guy. Besides downloading movies to a flash drive will work better

WMC blows, but if you have a xb360 machine performing this function now....and it still works, why buy something for more money to replace it?? Replace it when it fails?? Replace it with a xb360, which is cheaper??

I have no problem using my 360's with my Media Center PCs, as I have always done. What I'm mostly concerned with isn't that the XBox One have its own MCE software (like the 360), but that it work with my 360's MCE capability just as it will with a Comcast cable box. I already have what amounts to a centralized whole home TV / DVR setup that works great. I just want to take advantage of it for things like MS is showing in the new commercials for football season (and fantasy football) without having to resort to paying an additional rental fee to my cable company; I already pay them rental for the M-Cablecard so that my PC can tune / record up to four simultaneous channels, and I can watch my OnDemand using the built in xFinity app on the 360 or through any PC or tablet in the house.

Basically, I just want them to support my 360 / MCE setup as they do OTHER 'cable boxes,' as that's essentially what I have now. It doesn't have to be native MCE software on the XBox One, so long as it integrates nicely with what the 360 already has.

lol - I dont know anyone who has managed to get windows media centre to successfully talk to their 360. - I got it running once on my 360 - but after completely purging my PC of all data and reinstalling Windows - I could never get it to work again.

I'm hoping the Xbox one will automatically play nice with windows - and let me browse through "my documents" on a networked PC at the very least.

Things like Intel's NUC and other sub-mini ITX systems will allow one to roll out a full blown WMC device without having to deal with the "extender" aspect. That gives one access to everything, not just a subset of WMC features.

Needs to be more game centred not getting no media box

What exactly about an extender is so limiting? That "subset" of WMC features served me just fine for years. I use WMC mostly to record live TV and steam music, and never really had an issue. Earlier this year I ended up building a gaming PC that's also used as a HTPC, but I don't see any real advantage or difference in using WMC straight through the PC or through an extender. I also liked it a little better with things running through my main PC instead of having 2 separate PC's since it's easier to have all my files in one central place without the need for NAS systems or anything like that. Plus I miss being able to pull up the guide from either my PC or the 360 and set a recording.
