If you do not have a router to connect your pc and console seperately then you can use the method you mention above however you will need to power down the modem each time you disconnect and connect your
pc/console then once connected power it back up again.
Now if you are joining Live to use the Marketplace you are all set. If you are joining Live to play online multiplayer games then you will need to upgrade your FREE account to a GOLD account.
