Mail app on windows 8 is blank screen.

I tried to open the mail app on windows 8. It asked me to log into a microsoft account so I entered my email address and password, and got a blank screen, pale blue on the left, then grey, then white on the right. There is nothing else there. What do I do now? I tried running outlook 2003 but after a few day of working fine, downloading mail slowed to a snail's pace. Is it incompatible with windows 8 or can I get it to work?  Thanks.

Apparently Office 2003 is incompatible with Windows 8.

The Mail app finally woke up after about 4 days of being blank, to tell me that it can't operate the type of mail account that I have.  The troubleshooters found no problem with the app when it was blank and not functioning.

I have the same blank screen.  So waiting four days for it to wake up is "good to know"?!?  As with KMMKC, troubleshooter found no problems.  This is a truly dismal experience thus far with Windows 8.

Same here.  I started up my new Lenovo Yoga, with Windows 8, about 30 minutes ago.   I did open the mail app within the first few minutes but cancelled the setup and proceeded to browse around.  I went back to the mail app later after "playing" with the setup and setting up my location for the weather app, then I wanted to setup my corporate email account and I cannot because there is now a blank screen (three vertical columns of grey, no content just gray). within the mail app.   Is there a way to force an individual app to close?  I am also wanting to import my email from my Windows 7 machine (keep my email history of multiple corporate email accounts, import contacts, mail folders...I already copied and backed up all my Windows Live Mail files and am prepped to begin importing) is this going to work?   I'm really excited to use Windows 8 and get comfortable with it and use this new Windows 8 machine as my main daily device.

Recent device ownership/testing/experience:

Desktops: Windows 7

Laptops: Windows XP netbook, Windows 7 HP Pavilion, Apple MacBook Air, Lenovo Yoga Windows 8 (had it for 30 minutes so far)

Tablets: Blackberry Playbook, Kindle Fire, iPad 2nd Gen, Nook, Android Samsung Galaxy 7.0

it is blank because there is no account set up.  It is not blank as in "hung", but rather blank as in "nothing to show".  Most likely when you first started with Win8 you dismissed the configuration setup for a mail account, for the time being.

With the "blank" Mail app open move over to the right charms bar, select settings > accounts and add a new account.

Swipe from the right side to open the charms bar.  Click Settings>Accounts then add your account.  If you have your account set up already, make sure the Content to Sync>Email is checked.

Only option in Settings>Accounts is to add a new account.  After attempting to add the same outlook.com account, it says it has already been added.  There are no other options at all.  Certainly no Sync option nor a right click option.

Any other suggestions to get around this would be greatly appreciated.

In the account pane for the particular account there is an on/off switch for "sync email" -- make sure that is on.

To manually "sync" once that is on, there is a "sync" command on the options window that will pop up at the bottom of the mail screen if you move your finger / pen down there, or if using a mouse, put the rodent pointer there and right-click.

After the blank screen BS, I tried that got "You've added all the available accounts for this app" This app and the Microsoft team that wrote this ****! I just want to be able to click on an email link in a company email to email that person using my Outlook 2013. This SUCKS!
