Trying to do a repair on my husbands computer but it keeps asking for a password. The repair disk will not run automaticaly when I restart the computer, so I took the disk out and tried to go into BIOS and fix it to start, but now I can't even get into BIOS because its asking for a password. Is there anyway to get around this so that I can fix my husbands computer?
My husband and I have the same computer system. It is an ACER Desktop Aspire X3400G. XP version is Windows 7 service pack 1. Internet browser is IE8, and he has IDE drives. Antivirus is with AVG. The repair disk I have is one that I made off of my computer. I just followed the directions and burnt the DVD.
Was the issue preceded by a power interruption, aborted restart, or improper shutdown? (this includes plug pulling, power buttons, removing the battery, etc.) Not that we are aware of.
Does the afflicted system have a working CD/DVD drive (internal or external)? YES
Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD that is the same Service Pack as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any Recovery CDs that came with your system)? NO
What do you see (exactly) that you don't think you should be seeing and when do you see it?
What do you not see that you think you should be seeing?
If the system used to work properly, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did work properly?
When I turn the computer on it just has ACER in the center of the screen, and in the bottom left corner it says Del: Enter Setup F12: Boot Menu.
When I hit Delete it says Please Wait. It takes about 3 mins and then a screen pops up and says Enter Current Password: so I type in my husband’s password and it puts an X beside the password and then repeats Enter Current Password:. We have tried all different types of combo passwords but nothing has worked. After the 3 time of trying to put in a password it says Password Check Failed Press F1 to resume. SO we hit F1 and then a screen pops up and says Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press any key. At this point I try and put in the repair disk I made and hit enter. But it just keeps popping up Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press any key. So I restart the computer and then I hit the F12 button and it is the same thing as if I hit Delete I get the same screens.
My husband remembered it saying something like Windows failed to start due to a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix insert your windows installation disk and restart. Choose your language settings then click next. Click repair your computer. Then it pops up and says The Boot Selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
