Some devices may hang or freeze when using certain apps, such as “Hey Cortana” or Chrome, after installing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update

Microsoft is aware that some devices running the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) may hang or freeze when using certain apps, such as “Hey Cortana” or Chrome.

If your device freezes when using an app, try one of the following steps to recover Windows without needing to restart:

  1. Try a Windows key sequence to wake the screen.  If you have a keyboard connected, simultaneously press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B. If you’re on a tablet, simultaneously press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons, three times within 2 seconds.  If Windows is responsive, a short beep will sound and the screen will blink or dim while Windows attempts to refresh the screen.

  1. If you’re using a laptop, close and open the laptop lid.

Microsoft is working on a solution with the goal of including it in the next regular monthly update, currently targeted for a release date of May 8, 2018.

With so many users even beta testers using Chrome. How was this problem not worked out in beta releases? I could see some obscure software slipping by but Chrome?

I will give you partial praise Microsoft for not completely breaking my PC during upgrade. But my Wife's HP notebook took three hours to upgrade and had to download the upgrade twice. Not a smooth transition for a upgrade by any stretch and I did not opt for the upgrade.

When you push this stuff out half baked it really has no positive for your image or what users think of Windows. You just make yourself a worse image and create issues that should have been resolved before release to public. Personally I am thankful that one of my PC's hasn't received the upgrade so at least I can work without issues. Yes, I could go back to 1709 but knowing Windows update will just re install 1803 again in a day or two doesn't seem worth the effort. Microsoft needs to offer a option to go back and hold at that version for at least 30 days or 60 days preferred so that fixes can be put in place.

That's how well this guinea pig insider program works. Microsoft negligently sends half-baked sh*t to consumer's everyday PCs to do the testing for enterprises:

https://www.computerworld.com/article/2878026/microsoft-to-business-dont-worry-about-windows-10-consumers-will-test-it.html

It clearly isn't working as windows is literally at its worst quality ever with windows 10. They really need to hire back all those QA devs they laid off and take back responsibility of testing the whole OS. At least those devs got Windows to be very reliable after the second service packs, be it XP, Vista, Se7en or Ei8ht. Now that they're gone, windows remains an unreliable joke even after 3 years now...

BTW, neither of these walk-around work on my Surface Pro 2. Even pressing the hotkey combination takes 10+ seconds to respond and windows remains a laggy POS for 3 to 5+ minutes every time I wake my Surface Pro 2 from sleep, or dock/undock it from its docking station.

My laptop received  an update  on May 23rd, which took about an hour and when it was done, a page appeared concerning Keyboard Layout..I hit US then it goes to my making a decision about an operating system.

Windows rollback or Windows 10 on volume 3.  Neither worked.  I  then hit change defaults or choose  other  options.  Just a run around  that ends in no success.  How can this be fixed if I cannot  even get online?

It's annoying!!! Why I have to update Windows 10 if I don't want to? Why Google Chrome is freezing on every new page I'm opening? Why???? I don't want to pay for software which is not working properly! I'm tired of you.  Why you are updating people's computers without checking if you update is working? Do I look like  a lab mouse for you? That's a disgrace to treat people like this while multiplying your bank accounts! Please, send me a portion at least. Just as a Thank you for testing your software.

I don't have time to test your updates and look for the reasons why it's not working. That's not my problem. It's yours! So, pay me for my patience.

As I can see the issue was not resolved since MARCH 2018. Now it's August! Anything you can do about it?

Do I have to provide my bank account # or just call my lawyer?

Please, respond! Otherwise I'm calling my lawyer. Its time for you to pay your customers which you don't respect at all ever!

Looks like the culprit is OneDrive. The Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) turned on OneDrive without my permission. I unlinked and disabled OneDrive. Restarted Chrome, and it's loading much faster. The same thing was happening with my Office 365 apps.
