THE NETWORK PATH WAS NOT FOUND ERROR CODE: 0x80070035

I have been using a HOMEGROUP for numerous years to share hard-drives between Windows 10 computers connected to my home LAN via a gigabit wireless router and gigabit switches.  About the same time as my Windows 10 computers upgraded to version 1803, I have been unable to access my other Windows 10 computers connected by ethernet.

When attempting to access a Network PC, I receive the following Network Error message:

" Windows cannot access \\PC2

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To

try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

Error code: 0x80070035

The network path was not found. "

I have accessed numerous forums and tried numerous solutions, without success.

Based on numerous suggestions, my current network configuration is as follows:

1)  I have ensured that the following services are running Automatically on both Windows 10 PCs:

   - Function Discovery Provider Host

   - Function Discovery Resource Publication

   - SSDP Discovery

   - UPnP Device Host

2)  I have set Windows Features as follows:

   - SMB 1.0/CIFS Client to ON

   - SMB 1.0/CIFS Client to OFF

3)  Advanced Sharing Settings as follows:

   - Private & Public Network Discovery to ON

   - Private & Public File and Printer Sharing to ON

   - All Networks Read and Write to ON

   - All Networks 128-bit encryption to ON

   - All Networks Password Protection to OFF

4)  Appropriate Data Drives on both PCs are set to Share with Permissions set at FULL CONTROL for EVERYONE and Security set to FULL CONTROL for EVERYONE.

In File Explorer, both PCs are visible under NETWORK.

Each PC opens its own shared drives and printers under NETWORK, but will not open the other PC's shared drives and printers, giving the Network Error Message as above

I am still able to stream multimedia from both PCs to a number of Smart TVs connected via switches to my LAN, and the DHCP assigned IP addresses of each of the 2 PCs ping successfully.

Clive.

Answer

According this and you another thread of this same issue (!) I see that you have done all basic settings but you still have that one error. As I answer to you in your another thread for that issue: "Windows cannot access \\PC2 Error code: 0x80070035"

That error is caused by changes (or bug?) in Windows v1803 so that PC can't find link between IP-addresses and PC's names.

That's why I have used that hosts file (step 6 on my example) to create link between computers name and IP-address.

Update = Replace old bugs with new ones.
