Wireless Desktop 800 - Mouse issues

I have 2 sets of the Wireless Desktop 800 Keyboard and Mouse (although the mouse on both says it's a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000) and the one I use on my main PC isn't functioning correctly.  I know it's not the batteries, and I know there's no signal interference or bad ports as I've plugged the other set in for the time being and that's all running fine. Also I have the latest drivers.

Both mouses have a green light after first being turned on, which slowly goes off after you start moving the cursor.

When not functioning correctly the mouse in my main set appears to have a green light present when the mouse is raised or the laser is exposed from the desk/pad - when i put the mouse down the light goes off, but the cursor doesn't respond - for the most part anyway, intermittently it does work (sort of like there's too much going on and the PC doesn't have the resources to show you the cursor moving, or it's frozen), and it's usually fine for an hour or so following the initial boot up.  Sometimes the green light will come on when the mouse isn't moving but as soon as it moves, even the slightest, the light goes straight off.

The mouse that does work only glows dimly red when I'm moving the cursor, at any other time there's no light at all (I'm assuming this red glow is part of the laser when it's moving anyway and not the light itself).

I was guessing that there could be a loose connection somewhere in the main set but I'm not one for dismantling my mouse.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

This issue might occur if the drivers are incompatible or with any hard ware settings.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Run Hardware and Device troubleshooter.

If your computer is having problems with a recently installed device or other hardware, try using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common issues and makes sure that any new device or hardware attached to your computer was installed correctly.

 Follow the steps given below:

  1. Type Troubleshooting in the search box and press Enter key.

  2. Click on view all option on the upper left corner.

  3. Select the Hardware and Device options from the list.

  4. Click Next to run the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist follow method 2.

Method 2:

Try installing the available drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps below on how to install driver in compatibility mode:

    1. Download the driver for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 from the below link and save it on your local disk.

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/wireless-desktop-800

    2. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.
    3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.
    4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.
    5. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Hope the information helps, if you have any further queries, feel free to post. We are here to assist you.

Regards,

Guru Kiran

Thanks for your feedback.

Given that I'm still using a Wireless Desktop 800 with no issue I don't believe either of these methods will work.

As I stated I have 2 sets of the same keyboard and mouse (I have 2 PCs).  The mouse in the set for my main PC has started being temperamental.  Neither set are new hardware, I've been using them both for years.

Also given that the 2nd set isn't acting up in either PC I'm under the belief that any drivers have installed perfectly fine.

I've tried the problem set in my 2nd PC and it still has the same issue. I've tried new batteries. The keyboard works fine.

Before it stops responding, it starts scrolling up by itself. Also when you try to move the cursor it jumps back to the centre/where it previously was, then becomes mostly unresponsive.
