Toshiba Laptop Keyboard Driver Corrupt/Missing After Upgrading to Windows 10

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and my keyboard stopped working. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the keyboard is built in to the laptop so I can't just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in, it's not a wired device.

Yesterday the keyboard was partially functional. Some of the keys were not functioning but others were. I checked my drivers and it said my keyboard was installed and already up-to-date. I thought maybe Windows released an update that would fix the issue so I ran Windows Update, installed the updates and shut down my laptop, then went to bed.

Today, I started my laptop and the keyboard was completely non-functional. No keys are responsive at all. I checked my drivers again and this time my keyboard drivers have a warning symbol next to them and it tells me Windows could not load the drivers because they are missing or corrupt. I looked on Toshiba's website to see if I could download and reinstall the drivers but I couldn't find the drivers I was looking for.

I've included pictures of the drivers' statuses in my Device Manager. I'd really like this resolved because using the on-screen keyboard is a pain.

Some of the keys on my Toshiba Satellite were also not working after upgrading to Windows 10.  I went to this site and clicked to filter by keyboard and found the one just updated for Function Key on 7/27/15.  (You might have to look up your model number at the top.) I downloaded and ran that, restarted my computer, and the keyboard now seems fully functional.  Here's the site:  http://support.toshiba.com/support/driversResults?freeText=3478474

Downloading the Toshiba Function Key and running it worked for me too. I had previously upgraded my Satellite C675-S7200 to Windows 10 and the keyboard was not working (I had to keep FN pressed to make the other keys work). My Satellite is not included in the list of supported models for Windows 10 upgrade (http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swupdate/modellist.aspx?region=TAIS&lang=en&country=US) but with this keyboard driver fix it works great with Windows 10. Thanks!

If anyone still have issues.  Restore computer and re-update to windows 10 but make sure not on-line(internet)!! and do not do any window updates!! Because if you do it re-update driver to the wrong one.  Set windows 10 not update drivers automatic. Than now put computer back on internet and do you regular updates. This worked for me.

Sal_E, I'm having this exact same issue (can't type certain keys without holding down FN) with this exact same model (Satellite C675-S7200). What keyboard driver fix did you install? I tried the link posted above by Steve_324, but that goes to a support page for a different Toshiba model. If I go to the support page for C675-S7200, they do not have Windows 10 in the choice list. I've selected each one of the other O/S choices in the drop-down one by one, but none of them have any keyboard drivers posted. Where did you get an updated keyboard driver?

Thanks for your help!

Scopey, it has been a while since I did this so I am not certain now how I did it. I searched the Toshiba website and could not duplicate what I did. I searched my downloads and found the Toshiba Function Key driver (TC30594700C). I am not positive now that is what I installed. Try to search for that driver and see if that does the trick. Maybe this Toshiba FAQ will help >> http://support.toshiba.com/sscontent?docId=4004091

Good luck!

So much frustration over this, but after much perseverance, and lots of Googling, and wondering if I could afford repairs - or a new laptop even - my keyboard (Toshiba Satellite L775-S7340 - 6yrs old) is now functioning correctly.

The culprit, as others have discovered, was the (unrequested) installation of Synaptics (Lenovo) pointing device, the icon for which appeared in the toolbox subsequent to the Windows 10 update on 16th March, 2017.

As for getting rid - difficult. Unfortunately it wasn't listed in my favourite uninstaller software, Revo, so I messed about in the registry and Programmes, finally using Windows uninstaller when it appeared there - not under Lenovo, but Synaptics.

So, it had nothing to do with drivers needing to be updated, on the contrary, it must have been Synaptics own driver/s interfering. Incidentally, though I don't think it is really relevant, the only keys which stopped functioning were digits 1 to 4, and the spacebar. The Keypad wasn't affected.

I do hope this will be of help.

Regards.

Hi Havelock

Ditto. My spacebar, number 1 etc missing. Dis-sparing as trying to update end of year software.
On behalf of all Toshiba satellite owners (this one's a C670-15F) - THANK YOU!
This fix worked perfectly, keyboard perfectly fine and pointer too.

Regards.

Hi - good to hear from you and pleased to have helped.

I would add that yesterday p.m. another 'update' appeared, and guess what it was! Anyway it was simply and quickly removed via Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall and the keyboard returned to normal again.

Just hoping that will be the last I see of it.

Regards,

Havelock

Thank you for this. Been trying everything. Probably caused more harm than good, but unable to keep using FN with the space bar when typing. I removed the pointer device and sorted straight away. Now using a seperate mouse as touchpad not working. Can live with that. Thanks again. Had almost gave up.  Touchoad now working after a few restarts.

I used Havelock's solution on April 7, 2917 and it solved the problem.   Unfortunately this morning the problem was back.   I investigated and found that The Synaptics Lenovo Pointing Device App was back with an install date of 4/12/2017.

I used Havelock's solution again uninstalling the Synaptics Lenovo App but after several restarts, a shut down and start but the problem is persisting even though the Synaptics App is not shown as present.

Thanks You Havelock  for working this problem.
